What kind of movies are you playing in your mind at any one time?
If you’re thinking and focusing on positive movies, that make you feel good, that’s great, carry on.
However, if you’re playing back negative movies over and over again in your mind, it’s going to cause a detrimental effect on your life.
Let me explain this.
Imagine you go to watch a film.
But the movie is rubbish. You don’t like it.
Would you go and tell people about it?
Would you keep talking about it?
Would you keep mentioning it at every opportunity?
You wouldn’t, because it’s rubbish and not even worth thinking about.
Yet when something negative happens in your life, why do you keep playing that movie in your mind over and over again?
Why do you discuss it with other people?
Why do you keep talking about it?
What you’re doing by thinking about that same movie over and over again is that you’re feeding it.
And every time you feed it, it gets bigger.
It’s like the analogy of the two dogs.
One you feed more than the other.
Which one will get bigger?
Obviously the one you feed.
It’s the same with your thinking process.
If you keep running a movie, a negative, detrimental movie, which involves some emotional situation, and you keep playing it repeatedly, what’s going to happen is, it’s going to start affecting you in your life.
Due to the negative emotion becoming bigger and bigger because you keep focusing on it.
What you should be doing is rather than continue with that negative movie in your mind, change it, reframe it to something positive.
Something that’s going to make you feel good.
Even if it’s a little better than what you’re feeling right now, it will get you out of that negative cycle of thinking.
Otherwise you’re likely to go into a downhill spiral., and it’s going to affect you emotionally.
It can make you anxious.
It can even make you depressed.
So don’t hold on to those thoughts.
Especially the negative ones.
Don’t keep playing them in your mind.
They are not going to assist you in your life.
If anything, they’re likely to make things worse because as you continue focusing on them, they grow.
The more you feed them by thinking about them, the bigger they get.
These movies in your mind are basically your repetitive thoughts that you keep thinking and playing.
They affect you in more ways than one.
This is because your mind works on images, nor words.
If I ask you to think of an elephant, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?
It’s an image of an elephant.
It’s not the word ‘elephant.’
Like I said, your mind works on images.
If I say table, image of a table.
If I say mobile phone, image of mobile phone.
You see, your mind works on images.
So when you play movies in your mind over and over again, your mind thinks that that’s the way you wish to live.
Whether it’s beneficial or detrimental to you, the mind doesn’t know or care.
It rewards you with whatever you feed it.
So you must be very careful of the movies you play in your mind.
